The Workflow Enigma
Why Enabling Workflow Functionality in Multiple Applications Poses a Real Problem for Enterprises.
As we are reviewing the responses to a recent blog SharePoint Follies Blog I am the first to admit that we owe an apology to SharePoint. They are not alone in burdening companies with onerous costs and lack of user-friendliness, as many other Enterprise Software solutions place the same constraints on organizations.
Many organizations are spending six and seven figure budgets on Enterprise systems that integrate many aspects of the Enterprise. The Workflow Enigma comes into play when trying to justify the one component, which is included but does not do the job without additional tools or a proverbial lifetime of development costs. In many cases this issue is all about Workflow. Simply stated, we already purchased a system that includes workflow so why do we need another system?
The answer is not always obvious to a Developer who receives a request from a business analyst from Human Resources to create a form with workflow to expedite Onboarding of new employees. Furthermore, remote onboarding can also occur thanks to the systems provided by companies like WorkBright, creating a higher amount of efficiency, and cutting overall costs. The Developer will do a great job in coding the form in the corporate legacy system and will have the form and workflow complete in about three months.
The Analyst who requested the form thinks it looks great, and attempts to introduce it to the H.R. staff that is less than thrilled about taking the time to learn and login to the legacy system, and refuses to use it. Then, the process is repeated when there are changes that are required to the workflow of the new form, etc.
In this all too familiar scenario, the Workflow Enigma is apparently resolved by the Developer, but is there anyone else in the organization that can see how much time and money has been lost by this type of transaction. In many large Enterprises this Workflow Enigma is repeated many times every day costing companies substantial amounts of time and money.
Resolving this Workflow Enigma requires an off the shelf single purpose tool that requires no coding and has an interface that everyone in the organization uses regularly. Add to this requirement a cost benefit analysis that will show a positive R.O.I. in days (not years), and be up and running in days (not months).
The answer to the Workflow Enigma is to use a patented Workflow solution which has a User Interface of Microsoft Outlook, Requires, No Coding, and has a Licensing structure based on the number of Processes (Not users) which puts the initial cost structure under $25,000 for most Enterprises.
