Is Your Big Data Being Distorted?
Big data is key to your organization’s success. But what about unstructured data?
As more large enterprises rely on Big Data for decision making tools, the complexity of unstructured data being a significant Variety in the data set has become commonplace. The issues related to unstructured data have been well documented, with much literature discussing how the heterogeneity of unstructured data can be resolved for Big Data.
However, the FORM has become an undocumented challenge for Hadoop, Mongo, and other Big Data systems. All of the Data and Metadata from a Form stored in a filing cabinet, or electronically in an ERP (or other Enterprise) system may be invisible to data mining systems. This lack of data can skew data samples used for predicting future observations and cause catastrophic consequences for the company relying on incomplete Big Data for strategic decision-making such as cost reductions, time reductions, new products, and overall decision making. A Workflow Process must be implemented to ensure that all data is entered into the Big Data repository.
The conversion of a Form into a structured data source has been a challenge that has taken to task by a software company with a penchant for bringing order to Forms using an Agile Workflow tool. FORMVERSE has patented an Enterprise software solution which enables staff to access and complete any form right from email, and route those forms throughout the company for action based on business rules. This data/metadata is captured and stored in a SQL server database and can be exported into any Enterprise application such as Big Data, ERP, or other Enterprise application. This solution uses Microsoft Outlook, (all versions) the most common denominator of the Enterprise as the user interface, enabling authorized users to be able to Search and Report on both Data and Metadata contained in the Form. The requirement for Business users to have easy access to search and reporting on Big Data has been well documented by a MIT/Sloan Management Review.
“Coming to terms with big data is prompting organizations to rethink their basic assumptions about the relationship between business and IT — and their respective roles. The traditional role of IT— automating business processes — imposes precise requirements, adherence to standards and controls on changes. Analytics has been more of an afterthought for monitoring processes and notifying management about the anomalies. Big data flips this approach on its head. A key tenet of big data is that the world and the data that describe it are constantly changing, and organizations that can recognize the changes and react quickly and intelligently will have the upper hand. Whereas the most vaunted business and IT capabilities used to be stability and scale, the new advantages are based on discovery and agility — the ability to mine existing and new data
This requires a sea change in IT activity within organizations. As the volume of data explodes, organizations will need analytic tools that are reliable, robust and capable of being automated. At the same time, the analytics, algorithms and user interfaces they employ will need to facilitate interactions with the people who work with the tools. Successful IT organizations will train and recruit people with a new set of skills who can integrate these new analytic capabilities into their production environments.”
As your organization analyzes the Volume, Velocity, and Variety of data in the organization it becomes necessary to go through the process of determining which data sets are relevant to the extracted knowledge required. Please do not forget the Workflow Manager for the Form, to which FORMVERSE has given the rigorous protocols, required to ensure accuracy, validity, and accessibility.
